Akron Head Start has been serving children and families in Washington County since 1992. The goal of the program is to help children develop the social capabilities that they will need to succeed in school and in life. We also provide services in the areas of health, family services, education, parent involvement and disabilities. Head Start is a family-centered program and we believe that parents are their child’s main teacher.
BLUE ROOM
Our 3 year old newbies
The blue classroom is our three-year-old room. Most children in this classroom are just turning three and this is their first preschool experience. These children spend most of their time learning to play with friends, following the rules and a daily schedule, and working on their self-help skills.

GREEN ROOM
Mixed Ages
This classroom includes a mix of children who will be transitioning to Kindergarten either next year or in two years. The older children are encouraged to build on their Kindergarten readiness skills and take on leadership roles by helping to guide and model appropriate behaviors and routines for the younger children. In turn, the younger children benefit from observing and interacting with their older peers, which supports their social, emotional, and cognitive development.

Just a reminder we are an income-based program.
Our school year starts in August and runs till May. Our school days start at 7:45 a.m. and end at 3:30 pm. Monday through Thursday. We mostly follow the Akron School District with the exception of a few different holidays/meeting dates.
